Concept Explanation

A mixture combines two or more ingredients at different rates. The average (mean) rate of the final mix depends on the quantities and their individual prices or values.

Key Formulas

  • Mean price = (C1 ร— Q1 + C2 ร— Q2) / (Q1 + Q2)
  • Total cost = Sum of (quantity ร— rate) for each ingredient
  • Total quantity = Q1 + Q2 + โ€ฆ

Example

Mix 10 kg at Rs. 30/kg with 10 kg at Rs. 50/kg. Total cost = 300 + 500 = Rs. 600 for 20 kg. Mean price = 600/20 = Rs. 40/kg.

Common Trap

Do not take a simple average of prices unless quantities are equal. Weight by quantity always.
