Concept Explanation

Pie charts show parts of a whole as sectors. The full circle = 360° or 100% of the total.

How to Read Pie Charts

  • Each sector’s angle or percentage represents its share.
  • All sectors together sum to 360° or 100%.

Calculation Shortcuts

  • Angle = (value ÷ total) × 360°.
  • Value from angle = (angle ÷ 360) × total.
  • Percentage = (value ÷ total) × 100.

Example

Sectors 90, 120, 150 (total 360). First sector angle = (90/360) × 360° = 90°.

Common Trap

Similar-looking slices may differ if the chart uses an exploded (separated) sector—always use numbers or angles.
