Concept Explanation

Ratio-based DI compares quantities using ratios. Data may give explicit ratios or values from which ratios are derived.

Key Techniques

  • Write ratio as a : b and use parts (ax, bx).
  • Total parts = sum of ratio terms.
  • One part value = total ÷ total parts.

Example

Ratio 2 : 3 : 5 and total 500. One part = 500/10 = 50. Middle share = 3 × 50 = 150.

Common Trap

Ratio 2 : 3 is not the same as 2/3 unless you mean the fraction of the whole.
