Practice Questions

Concept Explanation

Bar graphs compare quantities using bars whose lengths (or heights) represent values. Read the scale on the axis carefully.

How to Read Bar Graphs

  • Check whether bars are vertical or horizontal.
  • Note the scale interval (e.g., each grid line = 10 units).
  • Compare bar heights for maximum, minimum, and differences.

Calculation Shortcuts

  • Total = sum of all bar values.
  • Ratio = value A : value B in simplest form.
  • % change = (change ÷ original) × 100.

Example

Bars for Mon–Wed: 50, 80, 70. Total = 200. Wed is 10 more than Mon.

Common Trap

A bar starting above zero on a truncated axis can look much taller than it really is—always read numeric labels.
